The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has officially unveiled "TraffiTech-GH," a high-resolution surveillance network designed to monitor road regulations. The system uses strategic cameras to detect over 47 distinct offences, with electronic notifications sent directly to offenders' mobile phones. This move is part of President John Mahama's broader digital transformation agenda to reduce human interaction in policing and streamline public safety.
By removing the need for roadside cash transactions, the system significantly reduces opportunities for bribery while increasing the state's capacity to enforce traffic laws consistently.

Africa Education Watch (Eduwatch) has backed the proposed establishment of the National University of Teacher Education (NUTE), which would coordinate Ghana’s 49 public Colleges of Education. The proposal estimates a 20% reduction in student costs by eliminating fees currently paid to mentoring universities. Eduwatch emphasizes that the new institution should focus on academic standards and research rather than competing for undergraduate enrollment.
This policy could ease the financial burden on thousands of prospective teachers and address the fragmented governance of the teacher training sector.
Families supporting students in teacher training colleges may see a significant reduction in remittance requirements for tuition if this policy is fully implemented.
Oswal Investment Limited has pledged to open the first lane of the 20.8-kilometer Dodowa-Afienya-Dawhenya road by December 2026. The project is currently 62% complete and features a major bridge and asphalt reconstruction. Roads and Highways Minister Governs Kwame Agbodza noted that President Mahama is expected to commission the first lane to provide immediate traffic relief for commuters in the Greater Accra and Eastern regions.
This corridor is a critical artery for transport and trade; its completion will reduce vehicle maintenance costs and travel times for businesses operating in the industrial zones of Tema and Afienya.
Real estate values in the Dodowa and Afienya areas are expected to surge as accessibility improves, making this a prime window for residential and warehouse development.
During the induction of 183 new engineers, the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) highlighted the 2026 Infrastructure Report Card, which assigned Ghana a D3 grade. GhIE President Dr. Ludwig Annang Hesse urged the new members to take proactive roles in addressing building collapses, urban flooding, and the environmental damage caused by illegal mining (galamsey).
The D3 rating signals high operational risks but also vast opportunities for public-private partnerships (PPPs) in the reconstruction of aging drainage and transport networks.
The "galamsey" crisis involves illegal small-scale gold mining that has contaminated major water bodies like the Pra and Ankobra rivers, leading to high water treatment costs and agricultural land degradation.
