Managing Director John Sheriff Bawah has emphasised that the government’s Big Push infrastructure programme is essential for the success of housing developments located outside the capital, Accra. Speaking on the State Housing Company’s (SHC) current growth strategy, Mr. Bawah noted that improved road connectivity is the fundamental factor in making emerging communities accessible and attractive to potential homeowners. He argued that the viability of new residential zones depends on a strategic alignment between housing delivery and the development of transport infrastructure.
A primary focus of this expansion is the 195-unit Surge Homes project in Amrahia, which serves as a model for how the SHC is leveraging the Big Push initiative to unlock new land for development. Mr. Bawah highlighted that by extending the national road network into previously underserved areas, the government is effectively creating the necessary conditions for sustainable housing projects. This infrastructure-led approach is designed to reduce the logistical hurdles that often deter residents from moving to the outskirts of major urban centres.
Beyond the Greater Accra Region, the SHC is actively broadening its footprint with several new projects in cities like Kumasi and Takoradi. This nationwide expansion aims to decentralise the housing market and provide affordable living options across the country. The company maintains that the ongoing investment in infrastructure under the Big Push remains the most effective way to address the national housing deficit while ensuring that new developments remain connected to economic hubs.
