President John Dramani Mahama has commended the Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, for his effective oversight of the "Big Push" infrastructure program. Speaking during an inspection of the Ntotroso Bridge in the Ahafo Region, the President expressed satisfaction with the speed at which contractors are executing vital road and bridge works across the country. He noted that the Minister's leadership has been instrumental in keeping contractors on their toes to meet national development goals.
The President highlighted the importance of maintaining the current momentum to ensure that Ghanaians benefit from these large-scale investments. He projected that the majority of infrastructure contracts awarded by the conclusion of 2025 would be successfully completed by the end of 2027. Mahama emphasized that the "Big Push" remains a cornerstone of his administration's development agenda, specifically designed to address long-standing infrastructure deficits and improve connectivity in various regions.
During the visit, President Mahama also recognized the significant contribution of the mining firm Newmont, which has collaborated with the government on several infrastructure initiatives in the Ahafo Region. He held up the partnership as a successful model for corporate social responsibility and national development. The President urged other mining companies operating in Ghana to follow Newmont's lead by engaging in similar public-private partnerships to mobilize resources for community-centered projects.
Mahama stressed that such collaborations between the public sector and private industry are essential for maximizing the impact of major investments in host communities. By ensuring that local infrastructure keeps pace with industrial growth, the government aims to create a more equitable distribution of the nation's wealth. The inspection of the Ntotroso Bridge serves as a clear signal of the administration's commitment to monitoring progress directly and holding contractors accountable for their delivery timelines.
