The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has given strong assurances to contractors engaged under the 'Big Push' road infrastructure programme that their payments will be processed promptly upon the submission of valid certificates. Speaking during a comprehensive inspection of road projects in the Bono Region, the Minister emphasized that the government has streamlined its financial processes to ensure that infrastructure development continues without the fiscal bottlenecks that previously hindered progress.
Mr. Agbodza highlighted that the current administration has significantly improved payment timelines compared to past practices. He noted that, unlike in previous years where payment certificates could linger for several months without action, the current system ensures that funding is readily available to meet obligations once work has been verified. This commitment is intended to build trust with the private sector and ensure that contractors have the necessary liquidity to maintain their work schedules and retain their workforce.
During his tour, the Minister inspected the progress of the Sunyani-Atronie-Acherensua road and the Sunyani Outer Ring Road projects. He expressed satisfaction with the quality of work observed on the ground and urged the various contractors to accelerate their pace to meet completion deadlines. Mr. Agbodza reiterated that the 'Big Push' initiative remains a cornerstone of the government’s strategy to bridge the national infrastructure gap and stimulate economic growth through improved connectivity.
Addressing specific project challenges, the CEO of Alexiboam Company Limited, one of the firms on-site, explained that their particular project had faced initial delays primarily due to the complex construction of the Tano Bridge. However, the CEO confirmed that the bridge is now nearing completion, which will allow for the rapid finalization of the remaining road stretches. The Minister’s assurance of prompt payment was welcomed by the contractors as a vital support for the successful delivery of these critical transport links.
