The State Housing Company Limited (SHC) has identified the government’s Big Push infrastructure programme as a critical catalyst for extending residential developments into emerging communities beyond the capital. Managing Director John Sheriff Bawah emphasized that the success of the nation’s housing agenda is inextricably linked to the quality of transport infrastructure. According to the SHC, the expansion of road networks is making new residential projects significantly more accessible and viable for both the developer and potential homeowners.
A primary example of this synergy is the Surge Homes project in Amrahia, where 195 housing units are currently being developed. Bawah noted that the improved road connectivity facilitated by the Big Push has transformed areas like Amrahia from isolated pockets into attractive residential hubs. He argued that housing delivery cannot stand in isolation; rather, it requires a robust transport backbone to ensure that people living outside the central business districts of Accra can commute efficiently and reliably.
Beyond the Greater Accra Region, the SHC is aggressively expanding its housing portfolio to other major urban centers across the country. The company currently has active projects in cities including Kumasi and Takoradi as part of a broader strategy to address the national housing deficit. By leveraging the infrastructure improvements provided under the Big Push, the SHC aims to create sustainable communities that offer high-quality living standards while reducing the pressure on Accra’s overstretched infrastructure.
