Asharami Ghana has officially commissioned a 6,000-metric-tonne Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) storage facility at the Tema Oil Jetty to boost the national energy infrastructure. The new terminal is expected to increase Ghana's total LPG storage capacity by approximately 10%, serving as a critical component in the government's strategy to achieve 50% LPG access for the population by 2030. The facility is fully automated and features advanced safety systems designed to streamline supply operations for the domestic market.
National Petroleum Authority (NPA) CEO Godwin Kudzo Tameklo emphasized that the investment will significantly improve supply reliability and reduce the frequency of fuel shortages. He noted that the terminal supports President John Mahama’s 24-Hour Economy initiative by ensuring a stable fuel supply for industries and commercial enterprises operating outside traditional business hours. The infrastructure is also designed to facilitate regional trade, as it connects directly with the MT Asharami Ghana LPG carrier to streamline bulk imports and distribution.
Beyond immediate industrial benefits, the terminal is a cornerstone of Ghana’s clean cooking drive, which aims to transition households away from wood-based fuels to cleaner alternatives. This 6,000-tonne facility is planned as the first stage of a larger terminal project intended to further expand storage capacity in the coming years. By strengthening the midstream petroleum sector, Asharami Ghana and the NPA aim to stabilize domestic fuel prices and enhance the overall energy security of the country.
