Minister of Roads and Highways Governs Kwame Agbodza has announced an extensive plan to upgrade principal streets in Accra. This initiative is timed to prepare the capital for Ghana's 70th Independence anniversary, which will be celebrated in March 2027. The project, which involves paving major roads and enhancing local infrastructure, is part of the government's broader commitment under President John Mahama to modernize the nation's transportation network. During a visit to the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Minister detailed that Oswald Investment Limited has been tasked with managing the project. Agbodza acknowledged that previous road works had faced significant delays due to funding challenges. However, he emphasized that the ministry is now prioritized to ensure these upgrades are completed efficiently to restore the capital's aesthetic and functional standards. The upgrade will pay specific attention to areas like Ga Mashie, following direct requests for improved road conditions in the historic district. Responding to the Ga Mantse, Agbodza also expressed support for creating local employment opportunities. He indicated that the ministry would encourage the recruitment of local youth for construction roles, ensuring that the infrastructure developments provide immediate economic benefits to the community. As the country looks toward its 70th year of independence, these road works are seen as a critical component of the national celebration's legacy. The Ministry of Roads and Highways is expected to coordinate closely with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly and traditional leaders to manage traffic and ensure the timely delivery of the project. This facelift aims not only to impress visiting dignitaries in 2027 but also to provide long-term relief to commuters in the Greater Accra Region.
