West Africa’s satellite and digital solutions provider, WAPS, has officially launched its new mobile application, TV Plus. Introduced during the company’s Customer Day 2026, the hybrid streaming platform is designed to bridge the gap between traditional television and mobile consumption. The app allows users to access live television content directly on their smartphones and tablets, catering to a growing demographic of viewers with increasingly mobile and busy lifestyles.
The WAPS TV Plus app comes equipped with several user-centric features aimed at enhancing the digital viewing experience. Notably, the platform allows users to rewind live programs by up to 12 hours and provides access to a catch-up library covering content from the previous 72 hours. It also includes an electronic program guide for tracking upcoming shows and a mosaic feature that enables the simultaneous viewing of four different screens. Beyond television, the app integrates radio station streaming, offering a comprehensive digital entertainment hub.
Speaking at the launch event, WAPS CEO Theodore Asampong emphasized the importance of innovation in the face of shifting consumer behaviors. He noted that the industry must adapt to maintain audience engagement as viewers move away from fixed television sets. While the app is currently free to download and use, WAPS plans to expand its offerings in the future to include on-demand content, which may be provided through both free and subscription-based models. This rollout marks a significant step for the provider as it expands its footprint in the regional digital solutions market.
