West Africa’s satellite and digital solutions provider, WAPS, has officially launched the WAPS TV Plus app, a hybrid streaming platform designed to bridge the gap between traditional television and mobile accessibility. Unveiled during the WAPS Customer Day 2026, the application allows users to watch television content directly on their mobile devices, reflecting a strategic shift toward flexible viewing options for a modern, on-the-go audience.
The WAPS TV Plus app integrates several advanced features to enhance the user experience, including the ability to rewind live programs by up to 12 hours and a catch-up service that covers content from the previous 72 hours. To assist with navigation, the platform includes an electronic program guide for tracking upcoming shows. Additionally, the app supports radio station streaming and a unique mosaic feature that enables viewers to watch four different screens simultaneously, facilitating multitasking for sports fans and news consumers.
Speaking at the launch, CEO Theodore Asampong emphasized that the introduction of the app is a direct response to evolving consumer habits. He noted that maintaining audience engagement requires adapting to how people consume media today. While the app is currently free for users to download and use, WAPS plans to expand its offerings to include video-on-demand content. These future services may be provided through a mix of free access and subscription-based models as the company continues to scale its digital ecosystem.
