West Africa’s satellite and digital solutions provider, WAPS, has officially launched its WAPS TV Plus app, a hybrid streaming platform designed to bring traditional television content to mobile devices. The announcement was made during the WAPS Customer Day 2026, where the company demonstrated the app's capability to provide flexible viewing options for audiences with increasingly mobile and busy lifestyles. The platform represents a strategic shift toward meeting the needs of modern viewers who require access to media beyond the traditional home television set.
The new application introduces several advanced features aimed at enhancing the user experience and ensuring viewers never miss their favorite programming. Key functionalities include a 12-hour rewind capability and a 72-hour catch-up function, allowing users to browse through recently aired content. Additionally, the app features an electronic program guide for tracking upcoming broadcasts, radio station streaming, and a unique mosaic display that allows users to view four different screens simultaneously on a single device.
According to Theodore Asampong, the Chief Executive Officer of WAPS, the launch is a direct response to evolving media consumption patterns across the region. He emphasized that the company must adapt to changing viewer habits to maintain high levels of audience engagement in a digital-first environment. While the app is currently free to users, WAPS has outlined future plans to introduce on-demand content, which may be offered through both free and subscription-based models as the service expands its digital library.
