TeamKairos, a South Korean educational team, has collaborated with Ghanaian educator Francis Eghan to introduce AI-supported learning tools designed to enhance Asante Twi instruction in basic schools. The partnership has birthed the "Every Child Can Read" (ECCR) initiative, which focuses on bridging the gap in foundational literacy by integrating traditional local materials with modern digital technology. This project is currently being piloted at a primary school in the Ashanti Region, targeting improvements in both indigenous language proficiency and English literacy for young students.
The initiative operates under a Teacher-AI Collaboration model, which seeks to empower classroom instructors rather than replace them. By providing teachers with digital tools tailored to the local curriculum, the project aims to make the teaching of Asante Twi more interactive and effective. The resources are specifically designed to address challenges in foundational literacy, ensuring that children develop strong reading and comprehension skills in their mother tongue. This approach acknowledges the importance of local language mastery as a prerequisite for broader academic success.
Beyond immediate literacy gains, the ECCR project is intended to foster local capacity within the Ghanaian educational system. By developing resources that reflect the local linguistic and cultural context, the partnership aims to reduce the country’s reliance on external educational materials that may not fully align with indigenous needs. The successful implementation of the pilot in the Ashanti Region is expected to provide a blueprint for potential scaling, demonstrating how artificial intelligence can be harnessed to preserve and promote local languages while preparing students for a digital future.
