World Vision Ghana has provided a significant boost to education in the Agotime-Ziope District of the Volta Region by distributing a range of IT equipment and classroom furniture to local schools. The donation, which includes 20 desktop computers, 41 tables, and 125 plastic chairs, is part of a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing Information and Communication Technology (ICT) literacy and improving the general learning environment for basic school pupils in the area.
Among the primary beneficiaries of this support are the Akwettey D/A Basic School and Agorhokpo R/C Basic School. These resources are intended to address long-standing infrastructure deficits that have previously hampered the delivery of quality education. By providing desktop computers, World Vision Ghana is enabling these schools to bridge the digital divide, allowing students to transition from purely theoretical ICT lessons to practical, hands-on learning experiences that are essential in the modern world.
The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, praised the organization for its timely intervention during the official handover of the items. He highlighted the importance of partnerships between the state and non-governmental organizations in achieving educational goals. Minister Gunu stated that such support is crucial for rural districts where resources are often stretched thin, and he encouraged the beneficiary schools to take full advantage of the new equipment to improve academic outcomes.
Speaking on behalf of the organization, the Director of Partnership for World Vision Ghana, Mr. Joseph Appiah, underscored the need for strict accountability and maintenance of the donated materials. He noted that the sustainability of such programs depends heavily on how well the resources are managed by the schools and the local community. Mr. Appiah stressed that effective use of these tools would serve as a justification for future investments and further support for other underserved schools within the district.
