Serene Insurance Limited, a subsidiary of the First Sky Group, has completed and handed over the renovated fifth-floor surgical ward at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH). The project involved a comprehensive upgrade of the ward's infrastructure, including the installation of modern hospital beds and air conditioning units designed to enhance the comfort and recovery of patients undergoing surgical procedures at the facility.
The renovation project was undertaken in response to a direct appeal from the hospital’s Surgical Department, which had identified significant gaps in the ward’s existing facilities. Mercy N.K. Boampong, the Chief Executive Officer of Serene Insurance, stated that the company prioritised the project to ensure that healthcare delivery at the nation's leading referral centre is supported by adequate infrastructure. She highlighted that the swift execution of the work reflects the company’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and its focus on tangible health outcomes.
Dr. Yakubu Seidu Adam, the Chief Executive Officer of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, expressed gratitude for the intervention, describing the partnership as a model for private-sector involvement in the health sector. He noted that the improvements would significantly alleviate the pressure on the department and improve the overall patient experience. According to Dr. Adam, such collaborations are essential for maintaining the hospital’s capacity to provide high-quality tertiary care to the Ghanaian public.
During the handover ceremony, the Executive Chairman of the First Sky Group, Eric Seddy Kutortse, also highlighted the group's broader vision for healthcare in Ghana. This includes a continued commitment to funding kidney transplant surgeries at Korle Bu and advocating for the establishment of a robust legal framework to support organ donation and transplantation in the country. These initiatives aim to create a more sustainable and accessible healthcare system for future generations.
