The Premier Nursing and Midwifery Training College has called for financial and institutional assistance from the government and traditional authorities to facilitate its expansion. This appeal comes as the institution marks its 25th anniversary, a milestone that signals its transition toward more advanced academic offerings, including the introduction of degree programs in nursing. Management noted that the support is essential to maintain the college's record of contributing to Ghana's healthcare workforce.
Speaking at the anniversary launch, Principal Afia Serwaa Yegbe highlighted the college’s vision to develop a new campus in Adadientem, located in the Ashanti Region. The proposed facility is central to the institution's strategy to upgrade its curriculum and infrastructure to meet the evolving demands of the national healthcare sector. Principal Yegbe emphasized that the transition to degree-awarding status is a priority for the college as it looks to build on its quarter-century of history in nursing and midwifery training.
The anniversary celebration also served as a platform for alumni and stakeholders to discuss the significant hurdles facing private nursing education in Ghana. Attendees addressed the financial burdens placed on students, which often hinder their ability to complete their training. In response, the college management urged traditional leaders to take an active role in supporting the next generation of healthcare professionals, specifically by sponsoring aspiring nurses from their respective communities to ensure a steady supply of skilled workers.
The call for support underscores a broader need for strategic partnerships between private educational institutions and the state to improve healthcare access and training standards across the country. As the Premier Nursing and Midwifery Training College moves forward with its expansion plans in Adadientem, it seeks to strengthen these collaborative ties to ensure the sustainability of its programs and the continued professional development of its student body.
