Abena Osei Asare, the Chairperson of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), has praised the Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, for his command of the Authority’s operations. During a working visit to the NPA headquarters on October 21, 2026, the committee reviewed the Authority’s performance and regulatory reports spanning from 2023 to 2025. Osei Asare noted that the CEO demonstrated a comprehensive understanding of the complex issues facing the downstream petroleum sector, providing clarity on critical management functions.
The commendation specifically highlighted Tameklo’s responses regarding the Unified Petroleum Price Fund (UPPF) audit and petroleum licensing procedures. Committee members expressed satisfaction with the level of transparency and technical detail provided during the presentation. The UPPF is a critical mechanism in Ghana's petroleum pricing structure, and the PAC sought to ensure its management aligned with national audit standards. Osei Asare remarked that the CEO’s expertise and effective management facilitated a more efficient oversight process for the legislative body.
Beyond financial audits, the visit focused on the NPA’s regulatory mandate, including quality assurance and consumer protection. Committee members toured key NPA facilities to gain firsthand insight into how the Authority monitors fuel standards across the country. Tameklo explained the Authority's systems designed to prevent fuel adulteration and ensure that consumers receive the exact quantity and quality of petroleum products they pay for at the pumps, emphasizing the importance of maintaining high standards across the industry.
Tameklo credited the Authority’s achievements to the collaborative environment fostered by the NPA Board and the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition. He acknowledged the strategic support of the sector minister, John Abdulai Jinapor, which he said has been instrumental in implementing essential regulatory reforms. The engagement concluded with a commitment from both the PAC and the NPA to continue enhancing accountability and efficiency within Ghana’s energy infrastructure.
