The Chairperson of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Abena Osei Asare, has commended the Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, for his exceptional understanding of the Authority's operations. The praise followed a working visit by the committee to the NPA headquarters on October 21, 2026. This engagement was part of the PAC’s mandate to exercise oversight over state institutions and review their performance for the 2023-2025 period.
Osei Asare specifically highlighted Tameklo’s detailed responses regarding the Unified Petroleum Price Fund (UPPF) audit and the Authority's licensing procedures. The Chairperson noted that the Chief Executive’s depth of knowledge facilitated a smoother review process, allowing the committee to effectively evaluate the Authority's adherence to regulatory standards. The visit aimed to deepen the PAC members' understanding of the NPA’s day-to-day functions and its management of critical industry funds.
During the session, Tameklo emphasized the NPA's commitment to quality assurance and consumer protection. He credited the Authority's operational successes to the collaborative support of the NPA Board and the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor. The Chief Executive addressed various questions on regulatory work, explaining how the Authority maintains standards across the petroleum value chain to protect the interests of Ghanaian consumers.
The visit included a tour of the NPA’s key facilities, providing the committee with first-hand insight into the systems used for monitoring and regulation. By observing these operations directly, the PAC members were better equipped to assess the technical and administrative capabilities of the Authority. This proactive oversight approach is intended to ensure that state agencies remain transparent and efficient in their service delivery to the public.
