The Chairperson of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Abena Osei Asare, has praised the Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, for his performance and technical grasp of the authority's operations. The commendation followed a working visit by the committee to the NPA’s headquarters on October 21, 2026, where the CEO addressed various regulatory and financial matters. The visit was part of the committee's efforts to deepen its understanding of the authority's mandate beyond formal hearings.
Osei Asare highlighted Tameklo's effective management and comprehensive understanding of the NPA’s functions, particularly during questioning on the Unified Petroleum Price Fund (UPPF) audit and licensing protocols. She noted that his clear, detailed responses reflected a deep involvement in the daily administration and strategic oversight of the petroleum regulator. The PAC visit aimed to enhance the committee's oversight role by providing first-hand insight into how the NPA manages its regulatory responsibilities and ensures transparency in its financial dealings.
During the interaction, Mr. Tameklo addressed questions regarding the authority's operations spanning from 2023 to 2025. He emphasized the NPA's commitment to quality assurance and consumer protection within the downstream petroleum sector. Tameklo also credited the Authority's successes to the collaborative support of the NPA Board and the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, stating that such support is vital for maintaining standards in the industry.
The engagement concluded with a tour of key NPA facilities, allowing PAC members to observe the specific systems used to monitor fuel quality and distribution across the country. By bridging the gap between parliamentary hearings and field operations, the visit was intended to ensure that the NPA continues to meet its statutory mandates while maintaining high standards of accountability in its operational and financial reporting.
