Engineer Eugene Odoi Addo, the Sunyani Area Manager of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), has issued a stern warning to electricity consumers regarding illegal connections and related power offenses. Speaking during the company's Customer Service Week, Addo emphasized that offenders will face legal action as part of a broader effort to protect the utility's infrastructure and financial health. The warning comes as the company intensifies its engagement with the public to foster better compliance and ensure the safe distribution of electricity within the region.
During the event, several customers raised concerns regarding significant delays in the acquisition of new meters, which often drives individuals toward unauthorized connections. While acknowledging these challenges, the Sunyani Area Manager stressed that bypassing official channels is not a solution and poses severe risks. He explained that illegal activities compromise the safety of the entire power grid, leading to potential fires and damage to equipment, while simultaneously draining the company of much-needed revenue required for infrastructure maintenance.
To address these grievances, NEDCo is encouraging consumers to utilize its internal complaint resolution processes before escalating matters to the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC). The company remains committed to educating the public on the dangers of power theft and the importance of using official channels for service requests. By prioritizing enforcement and customer education, NEDCo aims to create a more reliable and secure energy environment for all residents in the Sunyani area.
