Dignitaries, family members, and sympathisers gathered in Accra on October 23, 2026, to commemorate the first anniversary of the passing of former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings. The solemn occasion was marked by a series of commemorative events, including a tomb unveiling and a memorial Mass, to honour her legacy as a champion of women's rights and a significant figure in Ghana's political history.
The day’s observances began at the Military Cemetery in Accra with a tomb unveiling and a wreath-laying ceremony. Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the eldest daughter of the late First Lady and Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, laid a wreath on behalf of the family. Vice-President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang attended on behalf of the government, laying a wreath to signify the nation's respect for the former First Lady’s decades of public service.
Following the ceremony at the cemetery, a memorial Mass was held at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Accra. The service brought together a broad spectrum of Ghanaian society, reflecting the impact of the late former First Lady’s work through the 31st December Women’s Movement and her later role as the founder of the National Democratic Party (NDP). The liturgy focused on her contributions to social development and her role alongside her late husband, former President Jerry John Rawlings.
The anniversary events concluded with the Agyeman-Rawlings family expressing their gratitude to the government and the Ghana Armed Forces for their coordination and support in organizing the ceremonies. The commemoration served as a moment of reflection on the life of a leader who remained a prominent and often outspoken voice in national discourse throughout her life.
