MTN Ghana has officially launched the MTN T3kyer3ma Pa Hackathon and AI Summit 2026, an initiative designed to challenge university students and young tech innovators to develop home-grown Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions. The program focuses on addressing specific local problems through the creation of inclusive digital services that cater to the unique needs of the African population. Speaking at the launch, Mr. Kwame Menu highlighted that the initiative aims to empower young Africans to move from being passive consumers of technology to active creators of digital tools.
The hackathon encourages participants to build services that bridge gaps in accessibility and efficiency. One notable project highlighted during the summit was a voice-command application designed to allow visually impaired users to purchase airtime and manage digital services independently. According to organizers, such innovations demonstrate the potential for AI to foster social inclusion and solve everyday challenges that are often overlooked by global technology providers.
Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, the Deputy Minister of Education, attended the summit and emphasized the government's commitment to preparing students for an AI-driven future. He stressed the importance of enhancing digital skills through informed collaboration between the private sector and educational institutions. Dr. Apaak noted that such partnerships are vital for ensuring that Ghanaian graduates remain competitive in a rapidly evolving global economy.
The T3kyer3ma Pa Hackathon serves as a platform for young innovators to showcase their technical expertise and creative problem-solving skills. By focusing on home-grown solutions, MTN Ghana aims to cultivate a sustainable technology ecosystem where local talent is equipped to lead. The summit concluded with a call for continued investment in digital literacy and research to ensure that the adoption of AI in Ghana is both ethical and impactful for the broader society.
