President John Dramani Mahama is scheduled to break ground for the construction of the Accra Convention Centre at the Trade Fair site in La in the coming weeks. The project, which is being funded by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), was officially announced by the President’s Spokesperson and Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu. This development represents a significant state-led investment in the nation's infrastructure, designed to modernise the historic Trade Fair grounds.
The new facility is planned as a world-class venue covering a total area of 81,422 square metres. At its core, the centre will feature a state-of-the-art main conference hall with a seating capacity of 3,000 people. To accommodate high-level diplomatic and professional needs, the architectural design also includes a dedicated Presidential Hall for executive meetings and four large auditoriums, alongside various modern amenities to support international-standard trade and summit activities.
This investment by SSNIT is intended to bolster Ghana's position as a leading hub for business tourism and international conferences within the West African sub-region. By enhancing the capital's hosting capacity, the government aims to stimulate local economic activity and create new opportunities within the tourism and services sectors. The commencement of this project marks a strategic step in utilizing institutional funds to drive national growth and provide essential infrastructure for Ghana's expanding role on the global stage.
