Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, has commended the Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, for his role in ensuring the stability of Ghana’s petroleum market. Speaking at a performance review meeting in Ho, the Minister noted that the sector has remained resilient despite significant disruptions in the global energy landscape. He highlighted that the authority's proactive management has been vital in protecting the domestic market from external volatility.
Dr. Jinapor attributed this stability to the effective leadership at the NPA and the strategic collaboration between the authority and the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST). He explained that these internal synergies have been instrumental in navigating the uncertainties caused by ongoing global conflicts and economic pressures that have affected fuel supplies and pricing worldwide. This coordination, according to the Minister, has allowed for more predictable market conditions than those seen in many peer nations.
The Minister emphasized that Ghana’s management of its petroleum sector currently compares favorably to many other countries facing similar external pressures. By maintaining a steady supply chain and implementing robust regulatory measures, the NPA and BOST have helped shield the domestic economy from the full impact of international energy shocks, which often lead to severe shortages or extreme price volatility. This resilience is seen as a key pillar in the government's broader strategy for economic stability.
Looking forward, Dr. Jinapor urged the leadership of the petroleum sector to maintain this momentum and continue fostering the professional relationships that have underpinned the industry’s recent performance. He stressed that continued vigilance and strategic planning remain essential for ensuring that Ghana’s energy security is not compromised by future geopolitical shifts or global market fluctuations. The Minister concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting the NPA in its regulatory duties to protect both consumers and service providers.
