The Gold Fields Ghana Foundation conducted a significant health outreach programme in Samahu and Abekoase on October 17, 2026. The initiative, valued at GH₵606,964, provided medical screenings and healthcare services to 735 residents as part of the foundation's Q4 HEAL Programme. This intervention was designed to enhance healthcare accessibility and promote early medical attention for community members within the foundation's operational areas.
A critical component of the outreach was a focus on breast cancer awareness and early detection. Out of the total participants, 185 women underwent specialised breast cancer screenings. Medical personnel identified 21 suspected cases during these examinations, and these individuals were immediately referred for further medical assessment and clinical treatment. The programme emphasised that early intervention remains the most effective strategy for improving health outcomes for those affected by the disease.
Beyond specialised screenings, the event facilitated broader healthcare support for a total of 937 community members. These services included general medical consultations and essential support for National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration and renewals, ensuring that residents have the necessary documentation to access continuous care. The foundation’s substantial investment underscores its ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility and its strategy to bolster the health infrastructure of local communities.
The HEAL Programme (Health Outreach and Educational Awareness and Life-saving) represents the foundation's structured approach to community wellness. By bringing doctors and medical supplies directly to the residents of Samahu and Abekoase, the foundation seeks to bridge the gap in healthcare access that often results from economic or geographical barriers. Such regular interventions are expected to reduce the long-term burden on local clinics and promote a culture of proactive health management among residents.
