The Rotary Club of Tamale has successfully conducted a breast cancer screening exercise for 168 girls as part of its annual health awareness initiative. Held on October 23, 2026, at Our Lady of Fatima R/C Junior High School (JHS), the program was organized under the theme "Early Action, Better Outcomes." The project aimed to promote proactive breast health and provide essential medical assessments to young women within the local community.
Beyond the clinical screenings, the initiative reached a significant number of participants through intensive health education. In total, 318 students and 201 members of the surrounding community engaged in the awareness sessions, which focused on the importance of early detection and the removal of stigmas associated with the disease. During the medical evaluations, health professionals identified two cases that require further attention. While the medical team confirmed that these specific cases did not involve breast lumps, the individuals were referred for additional follow-up care to ensure their long-term health.
This initiative reflects the Rotary Club of Tamale’s ongoing commitment to enhancing community health and empowering the youth to take charge of their well-being. By facilitating access to free medical checks and expert advice, the club continues to support public health efforts in the Northern Region. Organizers concluded the event by encouraging the public to prioritize regular breast health check-ups, noting that early intervention is critical for achieving better medical outcomes and saving lives.
