Edmond Kombat, the Managing Director of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), has been honored as the Energy Sector Reform Programme (ESRP) Champion of the Year 2026 for the petroleum sector. The award was presented by the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, during the Ministry’s Annual Performance Review Retreat. This recognition highlights Kombat’s leadership in driving reforms aimed at enhancing the financial sustainability and operational performance of Ghana’s energy landscape.
The award specifically acknowledges the successful revitalization of TOR under Kombat's management. Key achievements cited by the Ministry include the completion of critical turnaround maintenance and the subsequent resumption of crude oil refining at the facility. These efforts have led to measurable improvements in operational efficiency, cost reduction, and revenue generation. The reforms implemented at the refinery are seen as central to the government's broader strategy to stabilize the energy sector and ensure long-term industrial viability.
Upon receiving the award, Kombat expressed his appreciation to President John Mahama for his leadership and vision in overseeing the ongoing energy sector recovery. He also extended gratitude to the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition and the dedicated staff at TOR, attributing the success to collective effort. Kombat noted that while the award is a celebration of recent milestones, it also serves as a mandate to maintain high standards of governance and operational excellence to support Ghana's economic transformation and energy security goals.
