The Black Star Experience Secretariat has officially launched the "Black Star Comedy Experience" (BSCE), a flagship initiative titled "You’re Ghana Laugh." Unveiled at Jubilee House on September 24, 2026, the project is a centerpiece of the upcoming celebrations for Ghana’s 70th Independence Anniversary in 2027. This initiative, spearheaded by Coordinator Rex Owusu Marfo in partnership with It’s Live Entertainment and Laughing on Lex, aims to elevate the profile of Ghanaian comedy on the global stage while bridging the gap between local talent and international audiences.
The maiden event is scheduled for January 2, 2027, and will feature a powerhouse lineup of comedians from Ghana, Nigeria, and the United Kingdom. Notable local acts such as OB Amponsah and Lekzy DeComic are set to share the stage with international stars, including the UK-based Eddie Kadi. This collaboration is designed to foster a vibrant exchange of comedic styles and techniques, providing local performers with the critical exposure and industry connections needed to compete in the international entertainment market.
Beyond the performances, the initiative carries a significant economic and developmental mandate for the creative sector. Coordinator Rex Owusu Marfo emphasized that the Black Star Comedy Experience is focused on transforming raw comedic talent into sustainable, professional careers by enhancing industry infrastructure. By treating comedy as a serious cultural export rather than mere entertainment, the project seeks to bolster the creative economy and create new job opportunities within the arts, aligning with the broader national goals of the anniversary celebrations.
This launch marks a strategic shift in how live entertainment is integrated into Ghana's national identity and ceremonial calendar. As the country prepares for its landmark 70th anniversary, the BSCE sets a precedent for using the performing arts to showcase Ghanaian hospitality and creativity. Organizers expect "You’re Ghana Laugh" to become a cornerstone of the annual entertainment landscape, ensuring that Ghanaian humor resonates effectively both at home and across the global diaspora.
