The Black Star Experience (BSE), a significant cultural initiative under the Office of the President, has intensified its efforts to promote Ghanaian heritage and talent through a series of ambitious programmes across the music, fashion, and film sectors. Central to this drive is the launch of the Black Star Choral Music Contest, a nationwide competition designed to discover emerging talent and celebrate Ghana’s rich choral tradition. Coordinated by Rex Omar, the contest will feature regional competitions involving schools, churches, and community groups, culminating in a grand national final in Accra. The winning region will be honoured with the title of 'Choral Capital of Ghana' for one year, serving as the host for the subsequent national finals to encourage local cultural participation.
Expanding its reach into the creative economy, the Black Star Experience has also announced the upcoming 'Blackstar Fashion Week' scheduled for November 2026. This two-day event will commence with a high-level summit on 4 November at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra, focused on the theme 'Put Ghana On.' The festivities will conclude with a 'Presidential Runway' on 7 November at the Royal Senchi in Akosombo. To bolster regional tourism, the fashion week will incorporate outdoor activities such as hiking and quad biking, aiming to attract investment and global attention to Ghana's diverse creative and natural assets.
In a parallel effort to nurture the next generation of storytellers, the Black Star International Film Festival (BSIFF) recently launched the BSIFF Youth Film Festival during its 11th edition in Kumasi. Targeted at filmmakers aged 25 and younger, the initiative seeks to involve young creators in all aspects of cinema, from production to jury decisions. While the inaugural youth-focused event is slated for 2027, the initiative encourages young Ghanaians to utilise accessible technology, including mobile devices, to share African narratives. Together, these multifaceted initiatives by the BSE and BSIFF represent a strategic commitment to fostering national unity, artistic excellence, and economic growth through Ghana’s vibrant creative sector.
