The Black Star Experience Secretariat has officially launched the maiden Black Star Comedy Experience (BSCE), a landmark entertainment initiative titled ‘You’re Ghana Laugh.’ Unveiled during a ceremony at Jubilee House on September 24, 2026, the project is strategically designed to coincide with Ghana’s upcoming 70th Independence Anniversary celebrations in 2027. The initiative is a collaborative effort involving the Secretariat, It’s Live Entertainment, and Laughing on Lex, aimed at elevating the profile of Ghanaian comedy on both local and international stages. The flagship event is scheduled to take place on January 2, 2027, serving as a major cultural milestone for the anniversary year.
The upcoming showcase will feature a high-profile lineup of comedic talent from Ghana, Nigeria, and the United Kingdom. Confirmed performers include prominent Ghanaian comedians OB Amponsah and Lekzy DeComic, alongside celebrated UK-based talent Eddie Kadi. By merging diverse comedic styles, the BSCE intends to foster a vibrant exchange between local and international performers. This platform is expected to provide Ghanaian comedians with significant global exposure and facilitate industry connections that can help bridge the gap between the local scene and the international entertainment market.
Beyond its role as entertainment, the initiative carries a significant economic and developmental mandate for the creative sector. Coordinator Rex Owusu Marfo emphasized that the Black Star Comedy Experience is focused on enhancing infrastructure and transforming raw comedic talent into sustainable, long-term careers. By moving beyond mere performance to focus on job creation and professional development, the organizers aim to strengthen the creative economy and establish comedy as a viable cultural export for the nation.
As Ghana prepares for its 70th-anniversary milestone, the ‘You’re Ghana Laugh’ initiative represents a strategic effort to diversify the cultural offerings that define national celebrations. The launch at the seat of government underscores a high level of official support for the arts, highlighting a commitment to leveraging the creative industry for national branding. This project sets the stage for a new era of live entertainment in Ghana, where artistic talent is recognized as a vital component of both national identity and economic growth.
