Residents of Atebubu and surrounding communities are set to experience significant relief following the establishment of a new Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) office in the area. The Paramount Chief of the Atebubu Traditional Area, Ohempon Dr. Yeboah Asiamah, has hailed the opening of the office as a long-awaited solution to the challenges residents faced in accessing essential vehicle and driver services. For years, locals were forced to undertake lengthy and often costly commutes to distant regional hubs to process basic documentation, a burden that the new facility is designed to eliminate.
Demonstrating a strong commitment to the project’s success, Ohempon Dr. Asiamah has personally invested GH¢70,000 to secure a temporary office space, ensuring that operations could commence immediately. Furthermore, the Paramount Chief has donated a dedicated parcel of land to the DVLA for the construction of a permanent office complex. This substantial contribution from the traditional leadership underscores the importance of the facility to the socio-economic development of the Atebubu district and reflects a successful partnership between the state and traditional authorities.
Beyond administrative convenience, the Paramount Chief emphasized the critical role the new office will play in enhancing local security. By bringing licensing and registration services closer to the people, the office is expected to improve the identification and tracking of vehicles within the jurisdiction. Ohempon Dr. Asiamah noted that proper vehicle registration is a cornerstone of public safety, and having a local DVLA presence will encourage compliance among motorists and transport operators, ultimately contributing to a more secure environment for all residents.
Ohempon Dr. Asiamah expressed his profound gratitude to President John Mahama for facilitating the expansion of DVLA services to Atebubu. He characterized the initiative as a major milestone in the government’s decentralization agenda, bringing governance and essential services to the doorstep of the people. As the temporary facility begins its operations, the move is expected to stimulate local economic activity and set the stage for the rapid development of the permanent site, marking a new chapter in the administrative efficiency of the region.
