President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama are set to grace the opening of the 10th Triennial World Assemblies of God Congress, which will make its historic African debut in Accra. Scheduled from October 14 to 16, 2026, the event marks the first time in the 115-year history of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship that the global gathering has been held on the continent. Hosted by the Assemblies of God, Ghana, the congress is expected to draw approximately 10,000 delegates and tourists from over 100 countries to the national capital.
Under the theme "COMMISSIONED: One Mandate, Every Nation," the congress will focus on critical themes of church health and global missions. Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, the General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, described the timing of the event as divine, emphasizing its significance for the religious community both locally and internationally. The gathering serves as a platform for spiritual renewal and strategic planning for the church's mission-driven activities across the globe while fostering international cooperation among various church branches.
Beyond its religious importance, the congress is anticipated to provide a substantial economic boost to Ghana. Rev. Wengam highlighted the potential for the event to enhance the nation's international image and showcase renowned Ghanaian hospitality to a global audience. The influx of thousands of international visitors is expected to benefit various sectors, including tourism, hospitality, and local commerce. To ensure a smooth experience, Rev. Wengam has called upon state agencies, security services, and volunteers to collaborate closely, noting that outstanding contributions to the organization will be formally recognized.
Preparation for the event is currently in high gear, with the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) expressing full commitment to a seamless execution. Rev. Andrews Nelson Awintia, Chairman of the LOC, reassured the public and stakeholders that every detail is being meticulously managed to make the occasion a proud moment for the nation. As Accra prepares to become the center of global attention for the Assemblies of God community, the event stands as a testament to Ghana's growing reputation as a premier destination for high-profile international conferences and religious tourism.
