The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has called for total unity within the party following the conclusion of constituency executive elections across the country. Speaking at the Ketu North Constituency Delegates Conference in the Volta Region, the Chairman commended the peaceful conduct of the polls, which took place in all 276 constituencies. He emphasized that the successful renewal of the party's grassroots leadership is a critical step in building the organizational architecture required for the 2028 general elections.
The electoral process, which was supervised by the Electoral Commission, saw a mix of continuity and change across the nation. While several incumbent executives lost their positions to new candidates, others secured their roles through strong local support. Notably, in 24 constituencies, every executive position was filled unopposed, a result the party attributes to internal consensus and local discipline. Mr. Nketiah explained that he deliberately maintained a neutral stance throughout the campaign period to ensure he could effectively reconcile all factions once the results were finalized. He urged newly elected officers to lead with humility and fairness, cautioning them against marginalizing those who contested against them.
Addressing those who were unsuccessful in their bids, the National Chairman encouraged them to remain dedicated to the party’s cause rather than withdrawing from political activity. He stressed that defeat in an internal election should not be viewed as a rejection but as an opportunity to serve the NDC in other capacities. He highlighted the importance of a unified front to support the administration of President John Mahama, noting that internal cohesion is vital for the party to maintain its momentum at the national level and protect the ideals of the current government.
This call for unity was supported by regional leadership, including the Northern Regional Secretariat, which issued a statement urging members to move past electoral differences. Regional Secretary King Salam congratulated the winners and reminded all stakeholders that the ultimate goal remains a victory in 2028. With the constituency layer of the party structure now settled, the NDC plans to use existing institutional channels to resolve any outstanding disputes arising from the polls, ensuring the party remains focused on its long-term strategic objectives.
