Zenith Bank Ghana has marked its 21st anniversary with a GH¢150,000 donation to the Childhood Cancer Unit at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital. The contribution, made in partnership with the non-governmental organization Cure Childhood Cancer Ghana, is designed to alleviate the financial strain on families and improve treatment outcomes for pediatric cancer patients. Managing Director Henry Onwuzurigbo underscored the bank's long-standing commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the health sector, referencing previous support provided to the Paediatric Oncology Unit at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. Dr. Nihad Salifu of Cure Childhood Cancer Ghana emphasized that such support is critical because early detection and proper treatment can lead to full recovery for many children.
In the Northern Region, Phyto-Riker Pharmaceuticals has bolstered maternal and child health services at the Tamale West Hospital to commemorate the facility’s centennial anniversary. The pharmaceutical company donated gynecological beds, essential medicines, and a cash sum to support the hospital’s ongoing operations. Nathaniel Palm, Head of Sales and Marketing at Phyto-Riker, noted that the gesture aligns with the anniversary theme, "100 years of care and compassion: brighter future for maternal & child health." This donation provides practical resources to a historic institution as it enters its second century of service to the Tamale community, particularly aimed at improving outcomes for mothers and infants.
Complementing these philanthropic efforts, Top-Up Pharmacy was recently recognized for its professional excellence, winning the "Community Pharmacy Chain of the Year" at the 2026 Pharma Excellence Awards. Organized by the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH), the award honors the chain’s dedication to high professional standards, community engagement, and patient-centered care. Dr. George Anagli, representing the Top-Up Pharmacy marketing team, stated that the recognition reflects the pharmacy's role as a vital source of health information and preventive care. This achievement underscores the growing importance of pharmacist-led services in expanding access to reliable healthcare across various communities in Ghana.
Collectively, these developments highlight a robust trend of private sector engagement in strengthening Ghana’s healthcare infrastructure. Whether through direct financial aid for specialized treatments, equipment donations for maternal health, or the maintenance of high standards in pharmaceutical retail, these stakeholders are playing a pivotal role in supporting the public health system. As healthcare needs continue to evolve, the continued synergy between corporate entities and medical institutions remains essential for ensuring that vulnerable populations receive the specialized care and resources they require.
