The University of Ghana (UG) and its Alumni Association have officially commissioned the Alex A. Dadey Centre, a new facility dedicated to the memory of the late educationist Dr. Alexander Apau Dadey Snr. The inaugural ceremony, held on October 23, 2026, marked a significant milestone for the university's infrastructure and its engagement with the philanthropic community. The centre’s future is secured by a substantial commitment from the KGL Foundation, which has pledged to fund its operations for the next 20 years.
Speaking at the commissioning, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, praised Dr. Dadey Snr’s profound contributions to education and public service. She emphasized that the facility stands as a lasting testament to his legacy and will function as a hub for societal transformation. The Vice-Chancellor noted that the university remains committed to creating spaces that foster academic excellence and honor individuals who have made significant impacts on the nation’s development.
In a tribute to his father, Mr. Alex Apau Dadey highlighted the late educationist's belief in the power of education as a tool for progress. He noted that the centre was designed to uphold these values and provide a platform for meaningful change within the university community. The KGL Foundation, a key partner in the project, has integrated the centre into its broader mission of supporting health and educational initiatives across Ghana, ensuring the facility remains a vibrant part of the campus for two decades.
The commissioning of the Alex A. Dadey Centre underscores the growing importance of alumni-led initiatives and private-sector partnerships in supporting higher education in Ghana. By securing long-term operational funding, the University of Ghana ensures that the facility will continue to serve students and faculty, bridging the gap between academic research and societal needs while honoring one of the country's dedicated educationists.
