The Catholic University of Ghana (CUG) has celebrated its 38th congregation ceremony at its main campus in Fiapre, marking a significant expansion of its academic output. A total of 2,808 students successfully completed their various programmes of study, a cohort that included 668 postgraduates. This graduation marks a pivotal moment for the institution as it continues to strengthen its position within Ghana's higher education landscape.
In a historic milestone for the university, the ceremony featured the conferment of its first-ever PhD degree. Vice-Chancellor Professor Matthew Glover Addo praised the academic standards of the graduating class, highlighting that every single student achieved a grade higher than a simple pass. He noted that this collective achievement reflects the institution's rigorous commitment to academic excellence and the hard work of both faculty and the student body.
Looking toward the future, the university also announced the enrollment of 1,810 new students for the 2026/2027 academic year. To support this growing population, Professor Addo detailed recent investments in campus resources, including the acquisition of new buses to facilitate transportation and a significant increase in the number of computers available to students. These enhancements are intended to provide a more robust environment for academic research and digital learning.
The 38th congregation underscores the Catholic University of Ghana's role in developing high-level human resources for the country. By graduating its first doctoral candidate and ensuring all graduates meet high performance thresholds, the university remains focused on its mission of providing quality, values-based education. The event concluded with an emphasis on the university's ongoing efforts to modernize its facilities and expand its academic reach in the Bono Region and beyond.
