The African Insurance Organisation (AIO) has presented a Certificate of Recognition to Steve Kyerematen, a distinguished figure in the Ghanaian and continental insurance sectors. The honor was conferred during the AIO African Reinsurance Forum Conference held in Mauritius from October 10 to 14, 2026. The award marks Kyerematen’s five decades of influential service and his pivotal role in shaping the African reinsurance industry since the mid-1990s.
Kyerematen’s impact on the industry is most notably tied to his status as a founding member of the AIO African Reinsurance Forum in 1995. For nearly 30 years, he has been a driving force behind the Forum’s mission to enhance reinsurance capacity across the continent. The AIO highlighted his leadership as essential to the growth of the sector, acknowledging his long-term commitment to fostering indigenous African solutions for risk management and economic development.
Throughout his 50-year career, Kyerematen has held several high-profile roles, including serving as a Regional Manager for the Munich Re Group. His expertise extended beyond the corporate suite to industry governance, where he made significant contributions to the Ghana Insurers Association (GIA) and served on numerous boards across Africa. His professional path eventually led him into the diplomatic service, where he represented Ghana as the High Commissioner to Malaysia, working to strengthen bilateral ties and economic cooperation in Asia.
The recognition in Mauritius serves as a tribute to a career that successfully bridged the worlds of international corporate leadership and national diplomacy. Colleagues and industry stakeholders at the forum celebrated Kyerematen’s legacy as a testament to professional excellence. His work continues to be seen as a blueprint for leadership within the African reinsurance landscape, ensuring a more robust and self-reliant industry for the next generation of practitioners.
