Forty-seven university students gathered at the Accra AI Community Center on October 23, 2026, for the inaugural "Unmute Yo’Self" event. Organized by the Sincerely Accra Podcast in partnership with The Gold Coast Report, the program was designed to equip young people with essential public speaking and communication skills. The participants, ranging from first-year to final-year students, took part in a series of workshops aimed at boosting their professional confidence.
The initiative received significant corporate support, with Malta Guinness and Ashesi University serving as primary sponsors. Led by podcast hosts Joseph Nti and Kwame Asante Ofori, the event created a supportive environment where students could practice articulation and address social anxieties. The organizers emphasized the importance of effective communication as a foundational tool for both academic success and future professional growth in a competitive job market.
A key highlight of the program was a session on the intersection of technology and art, led by guest speaker Nadia Daniel-Wilson. She addressed the growing influence of artificial intelligence in creative fields, providing guidance on how to leverage AI tools without compromising personal creativity. Additionally, a panel of established creative entrepreneurs shared practical insights into building sustainable careers, offering the students a realistic look at the opportunities and challenges within Ghana's creative industry.
By providing a platform for hands-on practice, the "Unmute Yo’Self" event sought to bridge the gap between classroom learning and the demands of the modern workplace. Participants left with improved strategies for social media engagement and public discourse, marking a successful start to what the organizers hope will be an ongoing series of youth-focused empowerment programs in Accra.
