The Shai-Osudoku District Assembly has officially launched a major initiative to extend potable water supply lines to Kasunya and several surrounding communities. Working in a collaborative partnership with the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) and private sector firms Golden Exotic and Agrokings, the assembly aims to resolve chronic water access challenges that have long hindered the region. The project is scheduled for completion by March 2027, marking a significant infrastructure milestone for the district's eastern corridor.
The extension project is specifically designed to serve the Lubuse, Gesikope, and Dzogbedi communities, alongside Kasunya. Ignatius Godfred Dordoe, the District Chief Executive, highlighted that the provision of safe, reliable water is a fundamental necessity for improving both the health and economic productivity of local residents. By ensuring sustainable access to clean water, the assembly expects to reduce the incidence of waterborne diseases and alleviate the daily burden on households that currently struggle with inconsistent water sources.
Representing the Community Water and Sanitation Agency, Godwin Elikem Kotoku assured residents that the CWSA would prioritize the technical integrity and long-term maintenance of the new infrastructure to ensure lasting service. Parallel to the water project, private partner Golden Exotic has introduced a scholarship scheme to support local students in tertiary education, demonstrating a multi-faceted approach to community development. While welcoming the initiative, local leaders have called for a commitment to the 2027 deadline to ensure the project delivers its intended benefits without delay.
