Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, the Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, has called on business leaders to significantly strengthen project planning and oversight to ensure the success of national development initiatives. Speaking at the PM Executive Summit, the Deputy Minister emphasized that rigorous management practices are essential for delivering value in the infrastructure and water sectors. She stressed that the effectiveness of development projects across Ghana depends heavily on the ability of leaders to implement and maintain high management standards.
During her address, Tetteh-Agbotui highlighted the necessity of clear accountability frameworks and continuous monitoring. She argued that the works, housing, and water resources sectors require proactive risk management to prevent delays and cost overruns. According to the Deputy Minister, leadership must focus on translating policy commitments into measurable outcomes by prioritizing effective project delivery structures. She noted that without a structured approach to identifying potential challenges early, large-scale projects often face avoidable setbacks that can drain national resources.
Supporting these views, George Asamani, the Managing Director of the Project Management Institute (PMI), noted that thorough groundwork is vital for successful implementation. He remarked that many projects fail not because of a lack of intent, but because of insufficient preparation and planning before execution begins. The summit concluded with a consensus that strengthening professional standards and fostering a culture of accountability are critical for achieving Ghana’s long-term infrastructure and development goals.
