Ghanaian businessman and philanthropist Alhaji Seidu Agongo has launched a nationwide initiative to distribute 10,000 free sewing machines to vulnerable women and young people. The program, carried out in partnership with the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), aims to equip beneficiaries with essential vocational skills to foster economic independence and self-reliance across the country. The distribution began with an initial batch of equipment handed over to selected individuals during a ceremony aimed at highlighting the potential of the country's youth.
Speaking at the event, Agongo urged the beneficiaries and the wider Ghanaian youth to pair their innate talents with discipline and hard work. He emphasized that while Ghana is a nation rich in potential, success only comes to those who are willing to apply themselves diligently to their crafts. The businessman noted that the initiative is designed to provide a practical pathway for marginalized individuals to break the cycle of poverty by establishing their own small-scale enterprises in the fashion and tailoring industry.
The partnership with NEIP ensures that the distribution is part of a broader national framework of entrepreneurial support. Beneficiaries of the first phase expressed significant gratitude, highlighting that the equipment would allow them to start tailoring businesses and improve their household incomes immediately. This philanthropic effort is expected to continue across all regions of Ghana, targeting those most in need of technical support to build sustainable and productive livelihoods within their local communities.
