Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, the Member of Parliament for La-Dadekotopon and Deputy Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, has categorically denied that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) played any role in the recent demolition of structures at La Pleasure Beach. Speaking at a press conference, Hon. Sowah clarified that the party was neither informed of the exercise nor involved in its execution. She expressed surprise at the decision to move forward with the demolitions without consulting the local political leadership or the affected community members.
The demolition, which has sparked significant local controversy, was reportedly carried out in connection with National Security and the Labadi Beach Hotel. Hon. Sowah criticized the lack of prior notification or formal engagement with the affected business owners, noting that the suddenness of the action left many without recourse. She emphasized that such operations require transparent communication and proper engagement to ensure that stakeholders are not unfairly displaced or disadvantaged without due process.
To address the fallout and mitigate further tensions, the MP announced plans for an urgent stakeholders' meeting. This consultative forum is expected to bring together traditional authorities, representatives from the NDC, management from the Labadi Beach Hotel, and other relevant parties. The objective of the meeting will be to discuss the circumstances surrounding the demolition and to establish a collaborative path forward that respects the interests of both the local business community and corporate entities in the area.
