Financial economist Dr. Razak Kojo Opoku has lauded the expansion of the KGL Group, highlighting its substantial contributions to the Ghanaian economy and national fiscal stability. He noted that the company's growth is poised to drive higher revenues for the National Lottery Authority (NLA) and provide significant corporate tax payments to the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA). According to Dr. Opoku, these contributions are essential for supporting the state’s socio-economic agenda.
A key component of Dr. Opoku's assessment focused on the strategic relationship between the NLA and KGL Group. He commended President John Mahama for resisting external pressures and "propaganda" that called for the termination of the NLA-KGL contract. Opoku argued that the President’s decision to maintain the partnership has been beneficial for all parties involved, emphasizing that the contract serves as a foundation for mutual growth while remaining subject to necessary reviews for stakeholder protection.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Opoku urged for a more objective public discourse regarding indigenous corporate successes. He pointed out that KGL’s significant corporate tax contributions reinforce its value to the nation, making it a critical player in Ghana's economic landscape. By supporting the growth of such local entities, Opoku suggested that the government is securing long-term financial benefits for the public sector and fostering an environment conducive to private sector investment.
