Since taking the helm of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) in January 2025, Administrator Paul Adjei has initiated a comprehensive "Resetting Agenda" aimed at revitalizing the nation's educational infrastructure. This strategic shift prioritizes the completion of a vast backlog of inherited projects alongside new, targeted interventions to address urgent gaps in school facilities. Under Adjei’s leadership, the Fund has disbursed a significant GH•11.573 billion toward various education-related initiatives, including the critical Free Senior High School (SHS) program, signaling a robust commitment to expanding access and improving the quality of learning environments across the country.
Central to the Adjei administration's strategy is the systematic execution of a massive backlog comprising 3,564 educational infrastructure projects. By shifting focus toward completion, access, and accountability, GETFund is working to ensure that taxpayer investments do not remain stalled in unfinished structures. To complement this, the Fund has launched 2,031 targeted emergency projects distributed across all 16 regions of Ghana. These initiatives are designed to meet critical, immediate needs in primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions, ensuring that infrastructure development reaches even the most remote or underserved areas.
Beyond physical structures, the Resetting Agenda has placed a heavy emphasis on human capital development through significantly expanded scholarship programs. The Fund has seen remarkable growth in its financial aid reach, awarding 6,904 local scholarships and 478 international scholarships to Ghanaian students since the start of the year. This dual focus on building schools and sponsoring scholars aims to create a sustainable educational ecosystem. Furthermore, Adjei is introducing new financing partnerships and improved resource management protocols to ensure that the Fund’s operations remain transparent and efficient as the agenda enters its more decisive phases.
As the Resetting Agenda moves forward, the emphasis remains on measurable outcomes and the long-term maintenance of newly completed facilities to ensure lasting impact. By balancing the resolution of inherited project delays with the introduction of modern infrastructure standards, GETFund seeks to provide a stable foundation for the education sector. This strategy aligns with the broader national goal of achieving sustainable educational improvements through disciplined financial disbursement and strategic planning, ensuring that Ghana's educational system remains competitive and inclusive for future generations.
