The Health Committee of Parliament has commended the ADB Ghana Medical Systems Group for its work on new Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratories at the nation's leading teaching hospitals. Following a two-day inspection tour on October 13 and 14, 2023, lawmakers expressed satisfaction with the completed facility at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) in Accra and the ongoing construction at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi. The visit aimed to assess the readiness of these specialized centres to provide critical heart-related medical services to the public. The committee noted that the KATH cardiac project is on track for completion by December 2023. These laboratories are designed to significantly enhance Ghana's capacity for advanced cardiac care, reducing the need for patients to travel abroad for expensive treatments. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to decentralize specialized healthcare, with additional cardiac centres currently planned for Tamale to serve the northern sector of the country. Dr. Titus Beyuo, Member of Parliament and Board Chairman of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, emphasized the importance of these facilities in fulfilling President John Mahama's vision for expanded access to specialized healthcare. He noted that while the infrastructure represents a major milestone, there is an urgent necessity for trained medical personnel to operate the new equipment. Dr. Beyuo called for a focus on human resource development to ensure the laboratories translate into improved health outcomes for patients. Beyond the cardiac facilities, ADB Ghana Medical Systems is also involved in the development of the $100 million Otumfuo Cancer Centre project in Kumasi. The Health Committee's endorsement of these projects underscores a focus on modernizing Ghana's medical infrastructure. The successful operation of these laboratories at KBTH and KATH is expected to provide a model for future investments in specialized medical services across the country.
