Parliament’s Health Committee has commended the ADB Ghana Medical Systems Group for its role in enhancing specialized cardiac care through the development of advanced medical facilities at two of the nation's leading teaching hospitals. Following an inspection of the project sites, the committee praised the group for completing the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and for the steady progress being made on a sister facility at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
The KATH cardiac project is currently on track for completion in December, marking a significant step toward decentralizing advanced cardiovascular treatments in Ghana. During the visit on October 13-14, 2023, committee members noted that these centers are designed to improve patient outcomes by providing modern diagnostic and interventional services. To further ensure geographical equity in healthcare access, the committee revealed that plans are already underway to establish additional cardiac centers in Tamale to serve the northern sector of the country.
Dr. Titus Beyuo, Member of Parliament and Board Chair of Korle Bu, highlighted the importance of these developments, attributing the initiative to President John Mahama’s vision for expanding access to specialized medical services. However, Dr. Beyuo also cautioned that the physical infrastructure must be matched by a commitment to human resource development, calling for the intensive training of personnel to manage the new laboratories. In addition to the cardiac projects, ADB Ghana Medical Systems is also engaged in the $100 million Otumfuo Cancer Centre project in Kumasi, a major undertaking aimed at strengthening the country's oncology services.
