Ohemaa Serwaa Abigail Owusu Ansah, a 23-year-old student, has pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit a crime and stealing GH₵1.5 million from Bishop Daniel Obinim. Appearing before the Adenta Circuit Court, the accused denied the allegations involving the theft of the substantial sum from the prominent religious leader's residence. Following her plea, the court granted her bail in the sum of GH₵1 million with specific conditions during her second appearance.
The prosecution alleges that the incident took place on October 13, 2026, while the accused was visiting Bishop Obinim's home. According to the state's case, Owusu Ansah conspired with two men to rob the Bishop while he was away from the residence attending a church service. The prosecution claims she led the accomplices to a safe within the house, which they broke into to steal the cash before fleeing the scene.
Owusu Ansah was subsequently arrested on October 16, 2026, following preliminary investigations. While reports indicate that she may have initially provided a confession regarding her involvement during police interrogations, she has since entered a formal plea of not guilty before the presiding judge. The court is now overseeing the case as the prosecution prepares to present evidence and call witnesses to support the charges of conspiracy and theft.
As the legal process moves forward, security agencies are still working to identify and apprehend the two men alleged to have assisted in the break-in. The case has attracted considerable public interest due to the scale of the theft and the profile of the complainant. Investigations remain ongoing, and the court will provide further directions on the trial schedule in the coming weeks.
