An Adenta Circuit Court has granted bail to 53-year-old businessman Amadou Mohammed, who is accused of defrauding a colleague of US$3.5 million. Mohammed appeared before the court facing charges of defrauding by false pretences, a claim to which he has pleaded not guilty. The case highlights a significant investment dispute involving a substantial sum of foreign currency allegedly collected under the guise of facilitating a large financial transaction.
The prosecution alleges that Mohammed convinced the complainant that he possessed the capacity to facilitate the shipment of investment funds. Based on these representations, the complainant reportedly handed over the US$3.5 million to the accused. However, the promised facilitation did not occur, and the funds were not accounted for as agreed, leading to the businessman's arrest and subsequent arraignment before the circuit court.
In granting the bail, the presiding judge set the bond at GH₵400,000. As part of the strict bail conditions, Mohammed is required to provide two sureties, both of whom must be justified with landed property. This requirement ensures that the accused has significant ties and assets committed to the court to guarantee his continued appearance throughout the trial proceedings.
The case has been adjourned as the legal process moves into the evidentiary stage. According to court records, the matter is scheduled to resume on November 24, 2026. Until that time, the businessman remains on bail under the specified conditions while the state prepares to present its case regarding the multimillion-dollar investment fraud allegation.
