The Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) has issued a final notice to all business owners to renew their registered business names by January 17, 2027. This directive is part of the Registrar's ongoing mandate to ensure the national business register remains accurate and that all entities operating in Ghana comply with statutory annual renewal requirements. The ORC emphasized that any business name not renewed by this date will be cancelled and removed from the official register, effectively rendering the business legally nonexistent. To facilitate a smooth process, the ORC has provided multiple channels for renewal. Business owners can visit any ORC office nationwide or utilize the USSD shortcode *222# for a more convenient digital renewal. During this process, owners are required to settle all outstanding fees and update their business particulars where necessary. The Registrar also noted that owners who no longer wish to maintain their registered names should formally notify the office to avoid further administrative actions. The ORC warned that trading under a cancelled business name is illegal and will attract legal penalties. Once a name is removed from the register, it becomes available for use by other parties, meaning the original owner loses all legal protections and rights associated with that specific brand name. This enforcement drive follows a previous exercise where the ORC purged 453 companies from the register for similar non-compliance issues, reinforcing the government's commitment to high standards of corporate governance and transparency.
