The Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) has officially dissolved 323 companies and initiated the process to strike off another 453 entities from the national corporate register. This administrative action, carried out under Section 289 of the Companies Act, 2019 (Act 992), is part of an ongoing effort to sanitize the registry by removing dormant and non-compliant businesses. Among the prominent names confirmed for dissolution are Ghana Breweries Limited and Ashanti Cement Limited, following a publication in the Companies Bulletin.
The 323 companies were permanently dissolved after failing to contest their removal following the expiration of a statutory notice period. These entities, which include trading enterprises, manufacturing firms, and various associations, had failed to meet their regulatory obligations or demonstrate continued operations. By removing these inactive businesses, the ORC aims to ensure that the official registry reflects an accurate picture of the country's active corporate landscape.
In addition to the completed dissolutions, the Registrar has moved to strike off a further 453 companies, whose names were published on October 15, 2026. Under the provisions of Act 992, these entities have been granted a three-month window to show cause why they should remain on the register. This period allows companies that may still be functional to rectify their standing and update their records before facing permanent removal from the database.
The ORC has urged all registered businesses and stakeholders to remain mindful of their compliance status to avoid similar actions. This cleanup exercise is intended to provide more reliable data for investors, regulators, and the general public. Moving forward, the Registrar emphasizes that strict adherence to filing annual returns and maintaining updated corporate information remains mandatory for all entities operating within the jurisdiction.
