The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has commenced its nationwide constituency executive elections across 276 constituencies, with approximately 15,000 aspirants vying for leadership roles. This internal reorganization is aimed at strengthening the party's grassroots structures in preparation for the 2028 general elections. Voting began on October 24, with electoral materials successfully dispatched to polling stations where security is being managed by the Ghana Police Service following high-level consultations between party leadership and the Inspector-General of Police. To ensure the transparency and credibility of the process, NDC General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey has enforced strict new guidelines. A significant change includes a ban on tally voting for eight key executive positions to prevent potential irregularities. Additionally, all delegates are required to present valid identification before being allowed to vote, with Kwetey emphasizing that election officials must not grant any exceptions to this verification rule to maintain the integrity of the ballot. The elections have progressed steadily in several regions, with reports of orderly conduct in constituencies such as Bolgatanga Central and Kpone-Katamanso. In the Central Region, significant voter turnout was noted in Cape Coast North, where roughly 1,350 delegates were expected to cast ballots, alongside high participation in Cape Coast South and the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem constituency. Despite the overall smooth process, the party is proceeding with elections in most areas despite a reported court injunction in Nkwanta North; IT and Elections Director Mahdi Jibrill stated the party had not received formal legal notice of any order. Former NDC Chairman Dr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo has called for unity and tolerance among the aspirants, urging them to prioritize the party's collective interests and grassroots democracy. These constituency polls serve as the foundation for subsequent internal elections; the NDC is scheduled to hold its Youth and Women Conference on November 13, followed by regional executive elections on November 14 and 15, 2026. This phased approach is intended to ensure a robust and revitalized leadership structure as the party prepares for its next national campaign.
