The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced strict new electoral guidelines for its upcoming regional executive elections, including a total ban on proxy voting. This measure aims to ensure transparency and accountability as the party prepares to elect its regional leaders across the country. According to the party leadership, every delegate must be physically present to cast their ballot, marking a significant step to maintain the integrity of the internal voting process.
To participate in the polls, delegates are required to present valid identification at the voting centers. Acceptable forms of identification include the official NDC Party ID card, a formal accreditation document, or identification confirmed by an embossed photograph within the voters' register. Polling is scheduled to commence at 7:00 a.m. and conclude at 4:00 p.m., though officials have assured that any delegate remaining in the queue at the closing time will be permitted to exercise their franchise.
Security for the elections will be managed exclusively by the Ghana Police Service through the National Election Security Task Force. Tanko Rashid Computer, the NDC Deputy Director of Elections and IT, emphasized that personal security details and private security personnel are strictly prohibited from all voting areas to prevent intimidation. In the Northern Region specifically, the police command has confirmed the deployment of 400 officers to ensure order and prevent disturbances, with access to conference grounds restricted to accredited individuals only.
The party leadership has called for discipline and unity among all stakeholders to ensure a credible and transparent outcome. By centralizing security under state authority and enforcing strict identification protocols, the NDC seeks to avoid the friction often associated with unofficial security presence at political gatherings. These regional contests represent a key phase in the party's internal organization as it consolidates its structures under the current administration.
